Basic Computer Skills Level 1 is the first of the two levels of Adult Special Education Computer Skills. Computers are an important part of education, work and personal life. This course is designed to give students a strong foundation in basic computer skills through guided activities about basic computer knowledge, keyboarding, word processing, electronic communication and internet safety. This course is designed to help students become more skillful in counting and handling money. Participants will be introduced to some of their rights and responsibilities as consumers. Content includes matching money with prices, counting money, counting back change, reading cash register receipts, estimating prices and purchasing power, using coupons, using banking machines and understanding ads and sales flyers. This part-time course is designed to meet the diverse learning needs of students with disabilities. By developing functioning literacy skills, participants increase their independence in community life and prepare for future learning and employment opportunities. Students participate in group and individual work. Students benefit from a small class size and activities that focus on functional literacy skills. Computer assisted instruction is part of the course. This course is part of Adult Special Education - Part-time Courses.
