This course, integrated with ENGL 1101, addresses the needs of non-native speakers of English who require specific help in order to meet course expectations. Students are given various proofreading and editing exercises, as well as paraphrasing and summarizing exercises. They will be introduced to effective techniques of quotation. Through multiple-draft writing assignments, they will learn the principles of effective revision.
Pre-requisite(s): CPEN O995(with C+ or higher), 0996 and 0992 Completion; or VCC English Language Assessment (ELA) with total score of 145 with 16 minimum in composition; or IELTS overall with Band 6.5 (no band lower than 6); or TOEFL iBt score with minimum of 86 (with a minimum of 21 in Reading and Listening and 20 in Speaking and Writing); or LPI Level 4 with minimum of 24 on the essay and 5 in English usage; or ELSK 0930 (with C+ or higher); or ELSK 0920 (with 'S') and ELSK 0925 (with C+ or higher); or Active registration with CLPNBC

This course, integrated with ENGL 1102, addresses the needs of non-native speakers who require specific help to meet expectations. Students will continue paraphrasing, proofreading, edits, and expanding their literary vocabulary. They will practise developing theses, writing outlines, and revising rough drafts for economy, coherence and accuracy. Increased importance will be placed on correct mechanics and academic format.

This one-term composition course introduces students to different models of essay writing. It also trains students in the mechanics of writing (grammar), analysis of short prose, and research skills (including MLA documentation).
Pre-requisite(s): English 12 with a final grade of C+ and ENSK 0902 with a final grade of B, or, English 12 with a final grade of B (or equivalent as per VCC's English language proficiency requirements), or, English 12 Provincial exam score of 72%, or, ONE of the following test scores: ABE assessment with 60 in reading, 52 in writing, and 0991 on essay, or LPI 5/35, or LET 4, or, Active registration with CLPNBC

In this course, taken with Integrated Language Support 1 (ENGL 1001), students will read various fiction and non-fiction texts and learn how to identify key elements of those texts, such as main and supporting ideas, thematic intent, rhetorical patterns, figurative language, socio-cultural context, style, and tone. They will analyze and interpret these texts and present their ideas in coherent, well-supported and grammatically correct compositions. Additionally, students will develop and present in a seminar a set of stimulating discussion questions on a selected short story.

This course, taken with Integrated Language Support 2 (ENGL 1002), introduces students to poetry and drama. When warranted, lectures will provide background information. Additionally, students will plan, develop and write an original piece of research on an approved topic, respecting academic standards of presentation and documentation. In a seminar format, students will develop and present a set of stimulating discussion questions on a selected poem or play.
